I once asked someone 'What is so special about the Watchmen series' and they told me that it was unlike any superhero story they had ever read. (Not counting 'Jonah Hex, btw) Well, I never quite got around to reading the graphic novel but I did make it to the movie today and I have to say... It is definitely different than any superhero movie that I've ever seen. It was Better... )

There are several reasons why I don't too much fancy prequels, but they all revolve around them sucking. One thing I will say about the latest installment of the Underworld series is that it doesn't suck. It is monumentally better than the first two films. Now Kraven-fans and Victor-fans will definitely not agree, but hey, I am LYCAN-fan and hells yes this movie rocked.

Anyone who knows me, knows that I have a love/hate relationship where the Underwold franchise is concerned. At the end of part one, I was so pissed that the franchise was focusing on vampires and that the Lycans were left virtually leaderless and still in the sewers like trash. I went into part two hoping again that a new Lycan lord would arise, and while he did, he was put down in less than 5 minutes by the same himbo hybrid who couldn't even protect himself in part one.

A good werewolf film is hard to find, I know this and while the heart of Underworld 1 were the underdog lycans, it still could have done more for the werewolf cause.

After watching the new trailer for Underworld 3 though, I feel a hell of a lot better, more optimistic. It is regarding the rise of the Lycans, telling Lucian and Sonja's story in a prequel. There will be lots of shirtless, dirty, buff, grade A werewolves in it and the original writers are back!! Hell, even Raze, beta-extraordinare is back!

Aaaah, the only thing that could be better for me right now would be the Transformers 2 trailer...or hints at an Underworld 4 movie with more lycans and mayhap a hybrid vampire (the uber cool gargoyle looking vamp, Marcus was wicked).

Save the pretty and dandy for someone else, serve me up beasts and brawn! Anyway, here is the trailer:

Primeval

I am a lover of Itunes. I’ll admit it. I look forward to payday so that I can download new media for my precious Ipod. Before my long journey down to Vieques Island, I planned to get a movie, some tunes, anything to make the trip swifter and to distract me from wanting to get up. (I’m always trapped by the window).

I had heard about the British show Primeval from a friend and had read a description of it in a magazine, but since it airs on BBC America, my only hope for checking it out was on Itunes. I debated getting a few episodes (1.99 each) for my flight, but with a season pass going for 24.99 and 9 episodes posted already, I purchased the pass.

Now, word of mouth and reviews are good and all but after the horrible disappointment I received with Sci Fi Channel’s "Sanctuary" (monsters look fake as hell), I was really praying that I was not making a mistake. I mean the Brits have a lot of great shows that I like and they have wicked accents…and from the previews, the monsters looked really good!

So the night before my flight, I checked out episode one and…Pay dirt! This show is phenomenal. Really. It’s about occurrences called anomalies which produce doorways to different periods in time (past and future). The anomalies allow creatures to enter the present day and cause havoc, both of the horrible and humors kind. The team that investigates the events is headed up by a most adorable Scotsman, called Nick Cutter. Filling out the rest of the team are the hawt brooding hunter, Stephen Hart, Abby Maitland the reptile lover and Connor Temple the goofy but adorable brainiac. Oh and I forgot to mention Helen Cutter, Nick’s missing wife who moves through anomalies as if they were just doors.

As a creature fanatic, this show is a real gem for me. Outside of the monster of the week adventures however is a really warped series of romantic involvements, a building mystery of adversaries, a puzzling alteration in time, and yes…there are a great deal of deaths in the show, one that had me crying buckets. It’s quirky at times, funny at times and then it can be downright creepy but having watched 5 episodes on the plane and the others after arrival, I can’t wait to sync when I get home! It is definitely one to watch and leagues better than most of the shows on Sci Fi right now. What would be perfect would be if the Sci Fi channel picked it up and aired it, but well until they do, I have my Itunes.

Vieques

My third trip to the beautiful island of Vieques, Puerto Rico was an adventurous one. Fine Dining and beautiful beaches, I knew what to expect; the bounty of free roaming wildlife such as horses, roosters, geckos, etc. I knew that I would have a wonderful time with my best friend who has relocated to live on the island...but what I didn't know was that another visitor would attempt to show up to the island. His name, of course was OMAR.

Destined to hit Vieques head on, it struck dread in me. Besides watching the Weather Channel like it was the SuperBowl, I got a glimpse of what Hurricane prepardness means. It's always rather intriging to watch disasters on television, but breaking out the generator, the hurricane shutters, checking the cisterne, making sure adequate food, water, beer and charcoal are in stock, clearing the yard of loose possible projectiles, was a whole other ball of wax.

Now H. Omar just barely slipped past the island at the 11th hour, but when I went to sleep, I was prepared to wake up surrounded by water. Vieques is not a big island and with a lot of concrete structures it wouldn't have totally been annihilated, but water, electric, mudslides and property damage will have still been an issue...Hell, they take all of the small planes from the airport in preparation and no way are the ferrys going to be in port before a hurricane.

I did not think that I was going to be home today, but thanks to the carribean sea winds, I got away with no problemo.

Now, Vieques is a quaint island, nowhere as fast and modern as San Juan, but absolutely gorgeous and perfect for some one who wants to relax, admire horses herding upon the beach. It is home of the Bio Bay, a bioluminescient bay where if you swim at night the little micro-organisms glow around you. (They are harmless) It is a place where you can eat gormet meals as well as local fare for reasonable pricing and drink well into the night with friendly faces around. Most of all though, it is a place to chill and despite the excitement of the hurricane, I did just that putting on more than a few pounds to boot. Fine dining, I had such great conch fritters, swordfish, chirascuro, pasta, chowder...Several of my favorite eateries, such as Tradewinds are located on the malecon (like a boardwalk), that overlooks the sea, but there are other restaurants peppering the island that are just as delightful such as Coqui Fire(who make exquisite hot sauces).

Again, it is a gorgeous island and I plan on returning soon, but for the uninnitiated, it is defintitly a place you need a guidebook and a guide for. And be careful of hurricane season.

If you are debating whether or not to go see Hellboy 2: The Golden Army then let me offer you one reaaally good reason why you should go:

Prince Nuada

Ok, now Luke Goss in costume, make-up and on stunt wire again!! Well to me that's a guarenteed sale of a ticket. The man has the most beautiful, facial bone structure and an accent just as lovely, plus he exudes sensitivity and deadliness in the same breath. Now, I may be a tad presumptive, but when he played Nomack in Blade 2, I really felt for his character and if you're at all inclined to pull for the underdog, you will really pull for the creatures of legend in Hellboy 2. Oh and did I mention how beautiful the man is in movement. He's what I expect from a male dancer or a martial artist. He moves like his style should be called, Lighting Lotus Wind or Striking Crane style. In Blade 2, he was so bad-ass that he whipped Blade's ass, and in Hellboy, well...I could watch those fight scenes over and over and over again. I'm not giving any spoilers, but, well sigh.....

In other sci-fi geek news: Did you know that they were making another Starship Troopers film?
Yup. Check it out!

Coming Soon from Loose-ID, my first FMM Paranormal, Multi-Cultural, Menage, "A Guardian's Desire!"

Freya Daniels is warrior wolf, powerful, deadly and dominating. Lacking in feminine grace, Freya hides herself behind alcohol and battle. She takes on an assignment to guard 3 young female Weres to a Mating pageant, figuring it to be easy money. There to see that the girls are mated, Freya isn't interested in finding one of her own.

When she meets Rayne, he is everything she's ever wanted and felt that she's needed. Submissive, beautiful, magical and strong, Rayne is a morsel that the dominant female can't stop craving. There's only one problem, Rayne belongs to his Alpha, Fenris, the leader of the Icelandic wolves and he is the exact opposite of Rayne. A Norse giant whose every fiber is dominating, Fenris is more than willing to allow Freya to purse his beta.
